Even if everything measured within tolerance at tear down, it would have been a good idea to have the block bored to accommodate at least a .020" over sized(87.5mm) piston, torque plate honed, and new pistons installed. Its also crucial to verify proper piston ring end gap and to install the rings properly. All of these steps as well as a good break in procedure ensure that the rings seat properly. Every engine I have built, I always document all measurements at tear down and after machining. Comparing the before and after measurements will tell you how much machine work has actually been done. It also helps to ensure that you aren't being over billed for procedures that may not have been performed. Consider it quality control. Because even the best machinists can make mistakes.
